Hi Grisson,
1) This is precisely how it used to work. However, because people were sick of being queued with bots, that's why we widened up the trophy range. I recall you having been on this forum for a while now -- I'm sure you were here during the days when everyone called to destroy bots? Based on feedback from here, Discord, and our other social platforms, that's why we made that change. So now, in hopes of reducing bots, but allowing in more real players, we have the current system. It's definitely not perfect, but given our current playerbase, this is the option we seem to have to go with. Keep in mind that even right now, it prioritizes finding people in your trophy range first. However, from what I'm getting based on your comments, it's unable to do that. So if we were to tighten the trophy range, what you'll see is likely a lot more bots (replacing those players you see now who are out of your trophy range).
2) I think there are some issues here because what MM tries to do now is to balance real players, since real players behave and adapt in a way that bots cannot (we do continuously try to improve on our bots!). By putting in 4 people on the same team, likely the match is a sure win. Also keep in mind that even as we open up the trophies range, there are still bots in every game. So most of the games will end up becoming 4 real people vs bots. There isn't that competitive aspect any more. However, one thing to note is that if the other team had 3 real players and yours only had 1 (i.e. you), that likely means your trophy count was higher than theirs and this is MM's way of trying to balance the teams.
A good example is of this:
https://images-ext-1.discordapp.net/ext ... height=488At first glance, it seems pretty unfair. If you're the person with 2K trophies and you're vs-ing 2 people on the other team with 1,000+ trophies, it seems off. But you can see what MM is trying to do here:
(757+687+879+2010)/4 = 1083.25 trophies average per person ==> > Team with one person with 2K trophies
(753+1244+1015+777)/4 = 947.25 trophies average per person ==> Enemy team
3. Bots are being improved on as I mentioned above. In this current update, a lot more bot Agents adapt more accordingly to the situation! However, this is something we likely cannot sit down and list all the different behaviors a bot should do. But we do try to prioritize adding in key missing bot behaviors with each update! If you look back at our patch notes, almost every update has bot improvements.
4. As mentioned in point 2) They try to balance the people who are queuing at the same time. So even if it's odd-numbered, it'll carry out the same averaging of trophies. Do note that to "relocate one to another queue" isn't as simple as it seems because it'd require moving someone who's assigned to a certain lobby to another one, and that requires some work in terms of reallocating a person, deciding who should be moved (should it be the person who waited the longest? The person who had the highest outlier in terms of trophies?), and even then, I think that keeping it say 1v1 real players still will see an imbalance in trophies (I.e. you're 2.6k trophies, vs-ing someone with maybe 2K. While this may be fine for you, for the other person, they won't see it as so).
There are things to back the decisions we make. We play the same game that you guys do, and feel the frustrations of being matched up with terrible bots or less real players than the opponent. But I hope you do understand that we constantly montior our feedback + data and try to choose the best option possible!
