usually the number of people in a clan doesn't say anything about the clan itself.
There are small clans who are really like family (see the CTG), there are big clans of 50 where only some few are active.
It also depends if you like to chat in the clan or not - more people usually means more chat activity.
my overall advice would be (for the achievers): check how much you can contribute per week and then find a clan in the overall ranking who

either has the limits stated in the clan description and you can meet them
b) you feel like you would be able to do your share in the events
or c) don't check the ranking at all and join a clan that gets suggested to you by the game. in the next event check the teamwork of the clan and if it doesn't fit your definition, join one of the clans in the ranking that does seem to fit you.
Don't take it personally if they boot you and stay in the clan as long as you feel comfortable there.
